The mayor is elected by the Town Council from the council members and is responsible for his/her activity to the council. The mayor represents the town outwardly, but his/her function does not have the character of a legal entity statutory body, and acts requiring approval of the Town Council or Board may only be executed after the aforementioned approval. The mayor convenes and usually chairs the Town Council and Town Board meetings, and signs the minutes together with designated verifiers. The mayor also signs by-law provisions, together with the vice-mayor, and fulfils other tasks stipulated by the Communities Act.
