Town Council

The Town Council, an elected body, is the highest self-governmental body and body of representatives of the town. The local authority elections are held based on universal, equal and direct suffrage by a ballot. The Town Council meetings are open to the public and are held within the town territorial district (usually in the meeting room at No. 12 building in J. M. Marků Square or at the „U Zlatky“ restaurant in Dolní Třešňovec). The Town Council has very important powers, prescribed by law, when making decisions on legal acts affecting property rights of the municipality.

The basic rules for the town council meetings are stipulated by the Communities Act, the meeting details are managed by the rules of order. The Town Council members, the Town Board and the council committees have the right to present proposals in order to put them in the order of business of the Town Council meeting to be held.

The Town Council has 21 members and is voted for the period of 4 ears. The current session will end in November 2010. The Town Council meets every 2-3 months and, in urgent cases, it may be called for an extra meting.
