He was an excellent musician, opera singer, actor, conductor and director. He took over the pharmacy from his uncle, Eduard Erxleben. He conducted a school orchestra already as a student. He studied music in Prague and Vienna. Langer was reputed to be able to play more than twelve musical instruments. He enchanted with his lovely baritone in many roles in operas and operettas. He worked as the last choir master of the choral, musical and theatre society and the academic orchestra. On the Střelnice stage, operas by Mozart, Weber, Leoncavallo, Puccini and Gounod were put at that time. Langer played an important role in enrichment of the cultural life in Lanškroun. He also made concert tours with an Austrian mandolin orchestra.
