He was a Czech Brethren preacher, author of a hymnbook of Czech Brethren. Weisse was a monk in Breslau, before 1520 he transferred to Czech Brethren.
In 1522 he took over the leadership of the Czech Brethren Religious Community of the German Language in Lanškroun and in Fulnek. He travelled to Wittenberg to get to know Martin Luther who was the first to appreciate Weiss’ importance as a poet. The Weiss’ hymnbook printed in Mladá Boleslav comprises 157 one-voice songs without accompaniment which have been sung at worships up to now.
Weiss died tragically, reportedly after having eaten poisoned wolf’s meat which had been offered to him by the Prince of Pernstein at the Lanškroun château.
